‘Alice Springs’ the name itself gathers attention and the place also does, the place is not named after Alice who went to Wonderland, rather the place is a wonderland. It is an attractive tourist place where visitors have plenty of options to enjoy and places to explore. Due to its central location and red colored rock formations in its vicinity the place is often referred as Red Centre.

Township in Alice Springs began in 1871 after construction of a telegraph repeater station. The town carried the name Stuart until it was changed to Alice Springs in the year 1933. The town went through slow developmental process but after sometime the growth of city started accelerating. Now the city holds the position of being the 2nd largest town territory in Australia.

  • Aboriginal Desert Art Gallery
    The gallery was inaugurated in the year 1985 and is among the largest Aboriginal Art galleries of the country. There is a wide display of Aboriginal art. You can just go through the amazing artwork or purchase which steals your the artwork.

  • Adelaide House Museum
    This is among the earliest building constructed in Alice Springs. Rev John Flynn is the designed of the building and it got completed in 1920. The building showcases the history of Alice Springs; it takes you into the memory lane of the town, its establishment and the progress of its inhabitants.

  • Alice Springs Golf Club
    The golf club is counted among the best desert golf course in the world. The desert place is surrounded by human made green fields. The amazing landscape mesmerizes the visitors. The golf course is extremely challenging owing to narrow fairways and if at all you land in the rough and then it’s real rough. So all you people who proud of their golfing talent should come here and take up the task of winning in a really rugged and tough course. The club is of international standard, you would find everything that a great club has so come and play.

  • Alice Springs Reptile Centre
    This centre has the largest number of reptile in display among all places in the Northern Territory (NT). You should be here to see huge Perentie Goannas, Frilled Neck Lizards, Thorny Devil and many more amazing reptiles which you may not have seen before.You can even get a glimpse of history by getting into Fossil cave, here you would see and know how the reptiles rose in hundreds of millions of year. You would be fascinated to see saltwater crocodile display by getting underwater view.

  • Alice Springs Telegraph Station
    This is one most important site as the name of the town has been from the waterhole found at this Telegraph Station which has is utmost historic importance. This place marks the first ever European settlement in the region. It was established in 1872 to disseminate messages between Darwin and Adelaide. The site is amazing and apart from seeing the preserved house furnishing, the artifacts of early 20th century you can enjoy walking at the lush green open space and even can have a look at the wildlife.

  • Alice Springs Turf Club
    It is at the Pioneering Park. Horse racing has always been important element of the Alice Springs. First meeting was conducted 125 years ago and now there are 34 race meetings in a year. April to May is the time when the races happen and most prominent among them is the yearly XXXX Gold Alice Springs Cup Carnival.
  • Anzac Hill
    This is the place where most tourists flock, it is the best place from where you would get the overview of the town. There is a memorial built in tribute to all those great souls who sacrificed their life in the World War 1.

  • Araluen Arts Centre
    The Araluen Arts Centre is the main place of Alice Spring’s visual and performing arts scene. There are many art galleries and a professional theatre. The Aboriginal art and the contemporary art are simultaneously displayed but what would attract you the most is the annual visual arts program. This arts centre has been built and designed around a tree which is said to be 300 years old and considered sacred by the local Arrernte inhabitants.
  • Arltunga Historical Reserve
    The place owes its formation to gold rush of 1887 when alluvial gold was discovered in the dry creek bed. People traveled miles to reach the place and try their luck. The climate was really hard to bear and what you could all find in whole Alice Springs was the Overland Telegraph Station. The mining activities went for 30 years. You must visit the place to see remnants old mines, camps and stone buildings.

How to reach:

Adelaide International Airport is the closest airport to Alice Springs and you can board the Ghan train from Adelaide which runs through Alice Springs and Darwin, in this journey you get the real outlook of amazing Australia. If you wish to go by car then it would take you 18 hrs to reach Alice Springs from Adelaide and 15 hrs from Darwin.
