    A Park that captured a vast number of Christmas Island in southwest Indonesia is actually a territory of Australia situated in the Indian Ocean. Millions of animals and plant could be found here. 100 million red crabs migrate at this place every year to live their life into the sea, one of which is the bright red carapaces. Hence, this park is called as the home of many different kinds of species.

    You can experience birds that you have never seen in your life before like Abbott’s Booby and Frigatebird. This wide variety of species turns the island into an important place for scientific community.

    The impact of phosphate mining was very severe during the early 1970s. Later in 1974 a governmental committee inspected the collision of mining and other activity and recommended that to set an area aside for conservation. According to their suggestions a series of measures was implemented. And hence, the Christmas Island National Park was established on 21 February 1980 under the conditions of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1975.

    To include most of the rainforest to its area, the island was expanded in the year 1986 and 1989 covering an area of about 85 Square Kilometres now. The island comprise of metamorphose. Out of 73 Kilometres, 46 Kilometre of shoreline could be found in the park limits. Rock pools are also created naturally that increased the glory of the island. The soil is too poor and tends to dehydrate at the time of dry season. It is due to the limestone that has been fractured and formed underground cave system. You could experience water filled caves and also dry caves at this place. The nearby waters of the island and the surface of the land are fertile.

    You will definitely go crazy by watching the species. Apart from the red crabs that are migrated in a wide range, you can see reptiles which have six species, a neighbor of the park. The giant gecko, the blue-tailed skink, the foreshore skink and few more species of reptiles could be found.

    Besides reptiles you can even take a glance at the mammals who are the native of the park. Mammals have three species. These are the Christmas Island Shrew, Christmas Island Pipistrelle and the Christmas Island Flying Fox. About the birds they are over 100 species. Few of them are vagrants, Great Cormorant, Lesser Frigatebird and much more that adds to the attraction of the park.

    You can find 200 species of native flowering plant at the Christmas Island and a huge amount of rainforest that feeds them. On the park’s coast you won’t find any mangroves.

    This park is actually managed by the Parks Australia. Parks Australia is the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. The park is protected as per the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
