I love to explore Australia where unlimited attractions can be found which is worth visiting. Every city of Australia has its own charm. Recently, I visited one of the best Galleries in the world and after exploring that I felt so glad to choose such a magnificent place on my holiday. The city of Canberra, which I selected as my holiday hotspot is the capital of Australia. The National Gallery of Australia is the famous art gallery and also a museum in the city of Canberra. This complex holds more than 120,000 works of art from across the world which was established in the year 1967 by the Government of Australia. It was established as a national public art gallery.

This gallery is situated in Parkes area which is in Colin Madigan’s wining Brutalist building and covers 23,000 square metres of floorspace. When I entered in I was having so much to see. This gallery is listed under the Australian National Heritage List in November 2007. I saw various displays that took all of my attentions especially the Australian Art along with an Aboriginal Art section, Western Art, Eastern Art, Modern Art, Photography, Crafts and sculpture. Also the standout pieces that comprises of 200 painted tree trunks are worth visiting. These are made to solemnize the aboriginal people who died by protecting their homeland between the years 1788 and 1988.
The gallery is a home to regular international art and photography exhibitions. People struggle hard to be a part of exhibitions held at this world famous gallery. While exploring this amazing site, I also enjoyed the beautiful landscape garden located between the gallery and the banks of Lake Burley Griffin. At the lake I explored many sculptures which are on permanent display. It’s truly great when we see such ancient art work done by the real legends as per me.
I feel lucky to catch a flight directly to Canberra International Airport and then took a train to the Canberra Station. Later, a car on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin took me ahead to the gallery where I started exploring magnificent works and sights as well. Another major highlight which is worth watching is Rodin’s The Burghers of Calais, and also the modern art by such notable artists like Mark Rothko, Lucian Freud, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, and Ron Mueck. This art works are so attractive that you cannot steal a single sight from it.
This gallery was first started as a distant idea during 1910 when the parliament of Australia intended that there should be an authorized collection of Australian Governors General which was highlighted by the national artists. Shortly, it became the Commonwealth Art Advisory Board that was actually accountable for art attainments till the year 1973. Overall, this gallery represents four major areas which is Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, Australian which is from colonial to contemporary, Asian and international. The impressive Art of the Indian Subcontinent gallery displays among the major Subcontinent collections outside India.
I experienced a striking Sculpture Garden which I have already mentioned. Besides this, drawings, photographs, furniture, ceramics, fashion, textiles and silverware are the best part to explore. To explore the gallery you do not have to pay entrance charges but if you are visiting exhibitions then it’s usual that you need to pay an admission fee. In addition, one can take guided tours as well. A tour is available which focuses on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. Those who want can take them. There is lot to do and explore. I must say that Canberra is a small city but is packed with world class attractions including this mind-blowing National Gallery of Australia.
