Sydney Opera House: 20th Century Architectural Marvel

The house was inaugurated in the year 1973. Its attractive design and wonderful construction speaks in volumes the magnificent brainwork put in making this house. Jorn Utzon a Danish architect is the man behind this unique this piece. You would be left with no words when you would actually see the house; this is perhaps the best engineering work of the modern age. The roofs are beautifully constructed and the House looks like a big harbor cruise. The House has been constructed with reinforced concrete and white tiles. The great waterscape setting further beautifies the whole thing. The house is huge covering 4.5 acres of land. The power consumption is that of what a town of 25000 people need. It is estimated that an extra ordinary amount of $102 million was invested to build this structure.

Where it is located:

The Sydney Opera House is positioned at Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, near the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is located at Sydney Central Business District’s north eastern tip.

  • Concert hall- 2700 people can be seated and Sydney Symphony and other major artists perform here.

  • Drama theatre- it has the capacity to seat 545 people and is generally used for dance and staging dramas.

  • Playhouse- it is an end stage theatre and can accommodate 400 people.
  • Studio- Depending on the need the space is optimized and utmost 400 people can be seated.
  • Utzon room- this venue is used for various purposes, it is small and just enough to seat 210 people.
  • Forecourt- this venue is open-air, flexible and with lot of arrangement alternatives. This venue is used for activities ranging from occasional performances to events of communities.

  • Essential tour- it is generally of an hr and at every 30minute the tour starts. This would take you to the stories of facilities available and you would be able to see all vital parts and important venues. The amount that you would have pay for this tour is 35 Australian Dollars.
  • Backstage tour- this is an expensive tour, would cost you AU $150. People who been to this tour have appreciated it. You would be taken inside in group of 8, you would delighted to see backstage preparations, artists rehearsing and stage arrangements; it’s always fun to see the other side of stage.
