They are immaculate, unsoiled, and they are white. The pristine Australian beaches help the gorgeous continent to define its identity.

Weather you love surfing on a marvelous coast, lazing on a stunning stretch of pasty sand, or exploring the magnificence of this beautiful coast in your vehicle, Australian beaches has something for everyone.

Exploring the beauty of Palm Beach in Sydney is one of the greatest pleasures one can derive when in Australia. It’s a long stretch of turquoise water. And it gets gorgeous while you move out of Sydney toward north. This is tourist’s favorite destination for surfing. Also, playing golf at the green course abutting this beach is a privilege.

The whitest among Australian beaches, may be world beaches, is Hyams Beach. The amazing blend of azure water and pure white sand cannot be missed while you are in Australia. The sunrays reflecting off the sand is enough to cause sunburn.

The perfect reminder of Caribbean is the Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas, Qld, with azure waves, tepid ambiance, and swaying palms. If you are seeking solitude, walk few meters (left or right) away from the bustle. There are exquisite restaurants here, but all are low-rise, keeping the beach clean and undisturbed. However, the seasonal marine stingers are quite noxious, beware of them.

But if you are seeking utmost seclusion, no other beach is as private as White haven Beach on Whitsunday Island. This four-mile long, protracted coast is quite gorgeous and extremely serene. But adventure lovers shouldn’t be disappointed because Surfers Paradise Beach in Queensland offers adventure for every level. Being a part of over 35 beaches, this area is known around the world for surfing. Moreover, the downy sand and cool breeze is a constant companion.

Another beach where marine stinger dominates is Cable beach. However, this place is a must-visit from June to September. The extensive, immaculate area of over 16 miles is the most exotic location in Australia.

Back in mid-1800, Bells beach in Victoria was a secluded area with no single dweller in an around the place. The first person to settle here was Mr. Bell, hence the name. For years, no one surfed on this beach except him. However, around 1940, it became one of the most famous surfing destinations in Australia.

If you haven’t heard of Bondi Beach, you definitely need to know more about Australian beaches. This beach in Sydney is one of the most visited places in Australia because it offers wide variety of water adventures, bistros, and serenity. Another entertaining beach in this country is Cottesloe Beach in Perth.

In summer, Australian beaches are known as heaven because the sun and females are hot, water is warm, and beer is extremely cold.

Walking through the coastline of Sydney is an engrossing experience due to the natural panorama, pasty sand spread, turquoise water and few rocks. However, few weeks every year, this coast offer a walk that’s quite distinct, quite artful, that cannot be experienced anywhere else.

Walking through the extensive stretch of sandy land between Tamarama Beach and Bondi Beach, for few weeks in a year, is like walking in an art museum. Here, takes place the biggest outdoor gallery known as Structures by the Sea, which perceptibly means structures kept besides the sea, on the beach. Many hundreds of thousands of people walk besides hundreds of structures laid on the 2 km long coastal land. And these aren’t kept in order. You will find sculptures at random places. You may even miss some of them, if you aren’t quite conscientious.

Judging and rating any art or sculpture is purely based on perception. Choices differ; hence different people have different opinion about the structures. For me, these structures by the sea ranged from extraordinary to sensible to just ridiculous. Some are stunningly beautiful and one immediately realizes the importance given minute details. The creativity and craftiness of few structures were incredible. However, some seems to be just as ugly as a broken rock or a manufacturing defect.

These sculptures are created by few emerging and many renowned sculptors from around the world. And in the end, the sculptor of best sculptor wins the Sculpture by the sea award and prize money. This even has got much publicity than other’s held in exhibition halls. Free for spectators, this annual event besides Indian Ocean attracts audience in huge number. This event is being held since past 13 years.

These are structures made up of stones, wood, plastic, metals, fiberglass, ceramics, and actually with any or everything. Some depict culture, some depict dreams, and some illusion. There isn’t any limitation or theme for the sculptors. It’s open. Open to creativity, art, imagination, humor, or simply reality.

Again, the assortment of structures was pretty broad. These sculptures evoked emotions ranging from confusion and astonishment to humor and hatred. Yes hatred; I loated some of them. There were few structures that matched well with the surroundings, the beach that is. However, some seemed to be awfully out of place.

After being there once, I realized that sculptures can look much beautiful if the surrounding area is good. It isn’t necessary to conceal them in a glass cabin in a museum or a hall.

Followed by the pioneer Bondi Beach, this Sculpture by the sea event now takes at other destinations as well. From 4th to 23rd March 2009, it will be held in Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Western Australia. This would be the sixth annual event held here. Likewise, a similar event was initiated in Aarhus Bay in Denmark in June 2008.

Let’s hope this event spreads all over the world and let art occupy every corner of our world. But not the ugly ones.
