Visit the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary to watch some rare species of animals and birds. If you really think that you have what it takes to be a hiker, try trekking from Parachilna, a small mountainous community, to the shorelines of Fleurieu Peninsula. It is a trekking path of 1200 km known as Heysen Trail.
For more adventures, hire a bicycle or a car to cover the rugged, coarse distance between Adelaide Hills and mountainous village of Blinman. This route is a craggy road of around 900 kilometers red mud and long wood trails. Take a break to visit the ancient townships of Birdwood and Lobethal. Also visit the neighboring Wine-manufacturing Barossa Valley, the ancient mining centers of Burra and Kapunda. For adventurous drives, move on Strzelecki track that penetrates the breathtaking desert, after passing through Dalhousie Springs and Damp area of Coongie Lakes.
Know people from around to world that have been settled in the dugout homes since many decades. Also, check out the renowned underground art arcade. An ancient mining center has been transformed into a museum that depicts the life story of Coober Pedy. Try to find opals engraved in the walls since many centuries. This area is known as an opal capital and more than 3600 people from all parts of the world have settled here. They live in foxhole-type houses to avoid the sweltering outback temperature.
You would not see elsewhere an underground cathedral, underground inn and a golf field without green lawn as in Coober Pedy.
The wildlife around Lake Eyre is remarkable after a scanty rainfall. Try driving through the Birdsville route that instigates from Maree, a place once considered mecca by Afghans, toward a town near the Simpson Desert, Birdsville. Check out the desert Sanctuary located near the Coongie Lakes that conserves over 21,000 marine roosters and more than 160 species of birds. Before going to this isolated vicinity, be equipped with a compass, map, a car with all the equipments, and enough food.

Try to operate a bush tucker, or help at the open-air medical camps that constantly operate in this region. You can know how the Flinders Range formed by driving on the Aboriginal Dreaming Trail. Go to the Chambers George to exhibit the artifacts and frescos left behind by the native people. An expedition through the Flinders Range is more of a historic and adventurous trip rather than a site-seeing tour. However, it has something for everyone.
